Otrovert

psychology, sociology

If there was ever a ’type’ that seemed to apply to me, it is the ‘otrovert’. Of course, nobody is a type, but much here seems to describe me well. In the past years, I suppose since taking up work for a Dutch employer, I’ve been getting tired of being ‘miscategorized’ so often. I’m getting old, and therefore low on enery on giving people the benefit of doubt so much. Being so recognizable in terms of language made me remember it is a great way to be lulled into thinking ‘we are the same’. There is no built-in difference that reminds people continously there are differences. So people start to assume… too much. I’ve been thinking that neurodiversity should be about the diversity: who isn’t? And people who seem to be ’normal’, are probably not. Or good at putting up an act. Because isn’t that what being socialized or domesticated means?
